Go to the bookstore or library. There are many books and audio tapes on the subject. Check out books like Tom Hopkins: Secrets of Closing the Sale. Buy a book on tape and listen to it as you drive to your customers offices.

Training and development focus on enabling the employees to perform their duties better. HR functions focus on the day to day operations of the company, such as payroll, disability, and employee and management conflicts or issues. HR protects employees and the company by following the correct and legal guidelines for resolutions.

Which IT Certification blends well with a Training & Development resume?

Question by TechWriter: Which IT Certification blends well with a Training & Development resume?
I want to add an IT certification to my resume. However, I don’t want to slave over material that won’t help me in my work or in the job market.

I don’t want to get a meaningless certification (like the new online college degrees) or train in something that is obsolete. I have the MSOffice, PowerPoint, Project and Access training. I am starting SixSigma and PeopleSoft/SAP HR training, but want to set myself apart as decidedly technical in order to get an edge. (I actually am technical, and love conducting or writing training on tech topics).

Not sure which cert will capture an employer’s attention: CompTIA has a host of certs, MS/Cisco/Oracle have certs…then, there is Data Security and some others I see that I worry that I should be considering.

What is getting hotter and would need to be trained to many employees so I can learn it and get contract work training others?

Difference between Human Resources Development and Training and Development?

Question by christianinksa: Difference between Human Resources Development and Training and Development?
I am considering applying for a distance learning Masters degree in one of these two Training & Development or Human Resources Development.
I would like to know the difference between these two and what kind of careers or job titles does each help the student get upon finishing his degree.
Names of universities providing similar programs accredited by the US department of Education would be highly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Human Resources Development and T&D is basically the same thing. Right now I am getting a degree in HRD with a minor in T&D. HRD includes more laws and T&D includes more facilitation and education classes.

They are basically the same thing.

I would like to enter the field of training & development.?

Answer by techman2000
I am in the Training and Development field myself. Teaching and training are similar, but different. Here are some tips to get you hired as a trainer:

1) First, read some books and take some classes in instructional design and training.

2) Look up your local ASTD chapter. There is typically an ASTD chapter in every major city. ASTD is the American Society of Training and Development. It’s a nationwide organization. Good way to network and see your local job market. Also, good way to learn T&D skills very quickly.

3) Check your local university or college. They may have a T&D certificate program.

4) Topics that are important are ADDIE, Kirkpatrick Evaluation, Needs Analysis, Evaluation, eLearning.

Once you educate yourself and know the techniques/terminology, then you can enter a entry-level training position at a company. The next step is to figure out what industry you want to enter. Since your background is health, you may want to train for a health insurance, clinic, hospital.

Jobs for someone with a training/development background?

Question by Wonderer: Jobs for someone with a training/development background?
I am about to receive my undergraduate degree, and about to complete my two internships. All my experience from completed courses and internships have been revolved around training and education. I’m currently looking for a full-time job, and been using search terms such as “Training” “Instructional Design” “Organizational Development”. Most jobs that come up are pretty high up (managers/directors/VP).

What other kind of jobs can I apply to with my background and experience level?

You can do what I did. Look for a job as a beginning copy editor, editing training manuals. Look under editor, and writing. Look in the paper under classifieds.

You know just ignore the title. Just read the job description, and see if it fits applies to you.

Corporations like to come up with fancy titles that don’t really describe the job. We all have read about the Sanitary Engineer that just means Janitor.

Just read everything in the job description, not only the title!

Try typing in training entry level, training no experience, training will train, training writer, training editor and your zip code at www.monster.com and other employment websites and see what comes up! Less fancy jobs, and more beginner jobs should pop up.

In some states like AZ you can also substitute teach without an education degree and that will give you more education/training experience. Check your State’s Dept of Education website for more information.

Oh by the way, Good Luck!
